Notes: Anna Gordon (1747-1810) was one of the most important collectors of Scottish ballads. Her father was Professor Thomas Gordon of Aberdeen University and her mother Lilias Forbes of Disblair, from whose family she acquired many of her songs and ballads. She supplied ballads to Walter Scott and Robert Jamieson. In 1788 she married reverend Andrew Brown of Falkirk, and she is commonly known to scholars as Mrs Brown of Falkland. ODNB.
