Notes: James Capper (1743-1825), army officer and meteorologist, who spent much of his military and diplomatic career in India, settling in Cardiff in the early 1790s. He published his Observations on the Passage to India, through Egypt in 1785, and his observations on the weather in texts including Observations on the Winds and Monsoons (1801) and Meteorological and Miscellaneous Tracts (1810).
