Notes: Sir William Henry Clinton (1769–1846), elder son of General Sir Henry Clinton and his wife Harriet (née Carter). His father's support aided him in following a military career from 1784, which led to participation in the the campaign in Flanders in 1793, and to an appointment as aide-de-camp to the duke of York between January 1796 and June 1799. Clinton was also MP for East Retford in Nottinghamshire between 1794 and 1796, and successively for Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire, and Newark, Nottinghamshire, between 1806 and 1829.
