Notes: Diana, daughter of William, Lord Burghly. Pennant describes her tomb of in a mausoleum erected in her honour at Maulden church, Bedfordshire, by her husband Thomas Bruce, Earl of Elgin: 'On it is a sarcophagus ... out of which rises a miserable figure of the countess in her shroud: on whom the country people, by a very apt similitude, have bestowed the title of The lady in the punch-bowl'.
