Beaton, David

AKA: Betoun, Beton

Title: Cardinal

Notes: David Beaton (1494?-1546) was cardinal and archbishop of St Andrews and ambassador to France under James V. Beaton's repression of protestant preachers and scheming against Scotland's apostate neighbour, Henry VIII's England, probably contributed to his murder at the hands of a group of Fife noblemen in 1546. He fathered eight children with his mistress, Marion Ogilvy. Two of their daughters,Margaret and Agnes, would marry David Lindsay of Crawford and George Gordon of Gight respectively. ODNB
